Position Summary
The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is responsible for leading the Credit Union's
commercial strategy, business development initiatives, loan portfolio growth, membership
growth, deposit growth, product development, marketing, and member engagement
functions.
As a member of the Executive Management Team, the CCO is responsible for developing
and executing strategies that drive sustainable growth, increase market share, enhance
member relationships, improve product penetration, and maximize the overall value
delivered to members.
The CCO serves as the executive sponsor and primary driver of the Credit Union's growth
agenda, with accountability for achieving strategic targets related to loan portfolio growth,
membership growth, deposit growth, product penetration, revenue generation, and
member engagement.
The CCO is responsible for identifying and executing opportunities that expand the Credit
Union's market presence, strengthen member relationships, increase product utilization,
and support the long-term sustainability and profitability of the Credit Union. The position
works closely with the Chief Risk Officer to ensure growth objectives are achieved within
the Credit Union's approved risk appetite and strategic framework.
Duties and Responsibilities
Corporate Responsibilities
• Adheres to the Credit Union's Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Service
Standards.
• Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and teamwork in all interactions.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of member, employee, and organizational
information.
• Participates in community outreach, financial literacy initiatives, speaking
engagements, and Credit Union-sponsored events.
• Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and ethical
standards.
• Promotes a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization.
Commercial Strategy and Business Growth
• Leads the development, implementation, and execution of the Credit Union's
Commercial Strategy and Annual Business Development Plan.
• Establishes annual growth targets for loans, deposits, membership, product
utilization, market share, and revenue generation.
• Develops and executes long-term strategies designed to increase loan portfolio
growth, membership growth, deposit mobilization, and non-interest income.
• Identifies market opportunities, emerging trends, and underserved segments to
support sustainable growth and increased financial inclusion.
• Conducts market analysis, competitor assessments, and industry research to
identify opportunities for expansion, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
• Leads initiatives aimed at increasing the Credit Union's market share, brand
awareness, and community presence throughout Belize.
• Develops and maintains strategic partnerships that contribute to business growth,
member acquisition, and product expansion.
• Develops initiatives to increase wallet share among existing members through
enhanced product and service utilization.
• Leads the development of sales and business development strategies across all
member-facing functions.
• Promotes and embeds a growth-oriented culture throughout the organization while
maintaining alignment with the Credit Union's strategic objectives and risk appetite.
• Provides quarterly growth strategy updates, commercial performance reviews, and
business development recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Lending Strategy and Portfolio Growth
• Serves as the executive owner of the Credit Union's loan portfolio growth strategy.
• Provides strategic leadership and oversight of lending operations to achieve
sustainable loan growth while maintaining portfolio quality.
• Establishes annual and long-term loan growth targets and monitors performance
against approved budgets and strategic objectives.
• Reviews loan portfolio performance, growth trends, delinquency levels, product
profitability, concentration levels, and market penetration.
• Leads the development and enhancement of lending products, pricing strategies,
promotional campaigns, and member financing solutions.
• Identifies opportunities to diversify and expand the loan portfolio across consumer,
mortgage, agricultural, educational, commercial, and emerging market segments.
• Develops initiatives to improve loan application turnaround times, member
experience, loan conversion rates, and lending efficiency.
• Collaborates with the Chief Risk Officer to ensure lending growth strategies remain
aligned with approved risk tolerances and portfolio quality standards.
• Monitors portfolio growth against strategic objectives and recommends corrective
actions where necessary.
Membership Growth and Member Experience
• Leads the development and execution of membership acquisition, retention, and
engagement strategies.
• Establishes annual membership growth targets and monitors performance against
approved objectives.
• Develops initiatives designed to improve member loyalty, deepen member
relationships, and increase product penetration.
• Oversees financial inclusion initiatives, community outreach programs, and
educational campaigns that support membership growth and community impact.
• Monitors member satisfaction indicators and develops action plans to continuously
improve the member experience.
Product Development and Marketing
• Leads the development, enhancement, pricing, and lifecycle management of the
Credit Union's products and services.
• Ensures products remain competitive, relevant, and aligned with member needs
and market demands.
• Oversees the Credit Union's marketing, branding, advertising, and public relations
strategies.
• Leads marketing campaigns designed to increase product penetration,
membership growth, and brand awareness.
• Evaluates product profitability and recommends enhancements, modifications, or
new products as necessary.
• Ensures consistent branding and communication standards across all channels.
Performance Management and Financial Growth
• Develops annual business plans, commercial budgets, forecasts, and
performance objectives for all areas under his/her supervision.
• Monitors growth and performance against approved strategic targets and key
performance indicators.
• Provides monthly and quarterly reporting to Executive Management and the Board
regarding commercial performance and growth initiatives.
• Partners with the Chief Financial Officer to develop pricing strategies, profitability
targets, and financial growth objectives.
• Utilizes business intelligence, data analytics, and market insights to support
strategic decision-making.
• Develops corrective action plans where performance indicators fall below
approved targets.
• Ensures accountability for achieving the Credit Union's approved targets related

Leadership and Organizational Development
• Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and professional development to
managers and staff within the commercial portfolio.
• Builds high-performing teams focused on growth, service excellence,

• Supports succession planning and talent development initiatives within the
commercial functions.
• Promotes collaboration across departments to achieve organizational goals.
• Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and member service
excellence.
Governance, Reporting, and Strategic Leadership
• Serves as a member of the Executive Management Team and contributes to the
development and execution of the Credit Union's Strategic Plan.
• Prepares and presents commercial performance reports, growth strategies,
market analysis, and business development initiatives to the Board of Directors
and Committees.
• Provides recommendations regarding products, services, growth opportunities,
market positioning, and strategic investments.
• Works collaboratively with regulators, industry partners, community organizations,
and other stakeholders.
• Leads strategic projects and initiatives related to business growth, market
expansion, and member engagement.
• Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the
position.
Education and Professional Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Banking, Economics,
Marketing, Strategic Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Economics,
Marketing, Management, Accounting, or a related discipline is required.
• Professional certifications in Lending, Credit Analysis, Commercial Banking,
Strategic Leadership, Marketing, Project Management, Business Development, or
Financial Services are considered an asset.
• Certification from recognized professional bodies such as CUES, ACCB, WOCCU,
CUNA, PMI, or equivalent institutions is considered an advantage.
Experience
• Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience within a
financial institution, credit union, banking environment, or related financial
services organization.
• Minimum of five (5) years of senior leadership or executive management
experience with responsibility for lending, business development, sales,
marketing, member services, or commercial operations.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing commercial strategies that
resulted in measurable growth in loans, deposits, membership, and revenue.
• Extensive experience in lending operations, credit analysis, portfolio
management, product development, sales management, and business
development.
• Proven track record of achieving portfolio growth targets while maintaining
acceptable portfolio quality and member satisfaction levels.
• Experience leading strategic planning initiatives and translating strategic
objectives into measurable operational results.
• Strong understanding of credit union operations, financial performance
management, pricing strategies, and member engagement.
• Experience working with Boards of Directors, Board Committees, regulators,
auditors, and executive leadership teams.
• Knowledge of the Credit Union Act, Central Bank regulations, consumer
protection requirements, and industry best practices.
• Strong analytical, strategic planning, financial management, and decision-making
skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal
communication skills.
